This is a direct care clinically oriented position within the agency, and is primarily focused on the provision of drug and alcohol counseling/therapy to clients of facility. An employee in this classification is responsible for providing a wide range of clinical and clerical duties including, but not necessarily limited to: group counseling, individual counseling, family counseling, educational lectures, development of Individualized Treatment Plans, documentation of DAP notes, group notes, Case Consults, Treatment Plan Updates, and other related documentation necessary for the appropriate upkeep of a clinical client record that is in full compliance with all state regulations. Employees in this classification will be under the direct supervision of either the Clinical Director and/or the Executive Director/CEO. However, in certain cases, a Senior Therapist may provide supervision also. In short, contact with clients, their families, representatives of private and public welfare and social services agencies, and representatives of professional organizations (i.e. managed care companies, physicians, probation officers, judges, etc.) is a significant aspect of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A minimum of a Master’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree or a Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC) from an accredited college or university in a related field of study, or an Associate’s Degree with 2 years of experience.
  2. A minimum of one (1) year of direct counseling experience working with individuals who had a primary diagnosis of chemical dependency
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of working within a managed care environment
  4. Working knowledge of the DSM-IV, with demonstrated ability to recognize the fundamental criteria sets for Substance Abuse and Dependence as stated in the DSM-IV
  5. A commitment and demonstrated knowledge of a specific Counseling Theory, and demonstrated ability to apply this theory in counseling situations
  6. A thorough knowledge and understanding of 12 Step Programs
  7. Prior training and demonstrated skills in the evaluation, diagnosis and referral of individuals with Substance Use Disorders

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs a variety of counseling, screening, intake, assessment and referral services
  • Performs individual, group, family and couples counseling
  • Develops, implements and monitors Client’s Individualized Treatment Plans
  • Completes all necessary and pertinent paperwork that is part of the Client Record
  • Communicates in a thorough and timely fashion with all necessary entitles (i.e., MCOs, etc.)
  • Attends weekly supervision and staff meetings
  • Prepares reports as necessary for all entities involved in the client’s care (i.e. parole, MCOs.)
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Executive or Clinical Directors
